Hi There Green New Dealmakers!
It’s been awhile! Team GenGND has been VERY busy and we’re excited to tell you all about what we’ve been working on…
Over the last few months our team has been running around the country covering hundreds of miles worth of Sunrise Movement’s “Generation on Fire” marches. Two groups of Sunrise Activists, one in the Gulf South and the other in California, have been marching for weeks through record-breaking heatwaves to demand that President Biden support a strong civilian climate corps, end negotiations on the American Jobs Plan with the climate-denying GOP, and revoke the permit for the Formosa Plastics plant in St. James Louisiana.
Generation Green New Deal produced a weekly video and a short film about the treks, which, trust us, was already quite a lot of work…And then we decided to add to that by producing a series of 7 ‘messages to Biden” with trekkers from both groups…Because they’re all here in DC, ready to knock on the President’s door and make their presence known. They’re demanding “No Excuses. No compromises.” from President Biden.
As you’re reading this, we’re getting DC ourselves, getting ready to cover today’s protest at the White House—we’ve been here since Saturday, and we’ll be staying overnight…Just like the Sunrise activists who are demanding Biden take stronger action on the climate crisis.
We’ll have a video recap of the protest later this week, and we’ll write another dispatch to fill you in on the day’s happenings—and share the video when it’s ready to go.
In the meantime, you can follow along with @GenerationGND (Or @sunrisemvmt) on Twitter/IG today as we post live throughout the day.
And you can also see all the videos we’ve produced over the last 7 weeks here…

Keep an eye on our social media channels for more content from DC and the treks in the coming weeks!
But that’s not all! We’ve also been hard at work on the podcast and the film while we’ve been traveling with “Generation on Fire”—and we’re VERY excited about the stories we’ll be telling in the coming months…Let’s just say that this new generation of Sunrise leaders are INCREDIBLE and INSPIRING…We think you’ll agree.
If you want to help support our work, telling the story of a generation, please consider becoming a Patron on our Patreon, HERE.
Oh, and one last thing—we dropped a new GenGND Conversation podcast with Hawaiian climate-justice organizer, and former Hawaii State Legislator, Kaniela Ing last week! You can hear Kaniela’s conversation with our Host Sam Eilertsen wherever you get your pods!
Please leave us a rating and review—and stay tuned for an exciting collaboration with our youth-climate-pod-pals from INHERITED, where we tell the story of Chloe Maxmin, a young State Senator from Maine who was the first politician in the country to pass a state-wide Green New Deal bill, and who’s now leading Maine towards a number of amazing progressive environmental and climate policies.
We’ve got LOTS of exciting stuff coming down the pike—so thank you for coming along for the ride!
Onwards,
Team GenGND
