Speaking "Youth To Power" w/ Jamie Margolin...
A New Book From A Courageous Young Climate Leader
Hi there GreenNewDealMakers!
On this week’s episode of #GenGND we’ve got a wonderful conversation with Jamie Margolin, a climate organizer from Seattle and freshman in college. Jamie is an incredible young-woman. As a 14 year old high school student, she co-founded the youth climate activist group Zero Hour and went on to help organize and lead the massive Youth Climate Strike in the fall of 2019. Jamie was also a surrogate for Bernie Sanders during the 2020 Democratic primary, and is a plaintiff in a climate lawsuit against her home state of Washington.
Earlier this year, Jamie’s book “Youth to Power: Your Voice and How to Use It” was published to rave reviews. The book is a fascinating DIY manual for activism, and in each chapter Jamie interviews another youth activist about a particular aspect of activism.
Our conversation with Jamie is stitched together from a couple of different interviews, and it touches on how she came to activism at a young age, sparring with Republicans on Capitol Hill, writing her book, and dealing with burnout.
We hope you enjoy…Please listen & subscribe wherever you get your pods!
And buy Jamie’s book for your loved-ones this holiday-season!
It’s a great read for anyone interested in activism, no matter your age.
We’ll be back next week with our first narrative episode of the pod since the 2020 elections…So, please stay tuned for some important insights into what’s happening with regards to climate in the Biden-Harris Transition from Sunrise Movement Co-Founder & Political Director, Evan Weber, acclaimed journalist and author Kate Aronoff, and Sunrise’s Creative Director Alex O’Keefe.
In the meantime, we wanted to take this chance to wish everyone a HAPPY HANUKKAH! We’ll be celebrating every holiday we can to round out this brutal year—and we hope that the light will shine brightly through the darkness for you and your loved ones.
And, if you’re in a position to spare some of your 2020 Hanukkah Gelt (we know times are tough, but..) we’d really appreciate your support for our year-end fundraiser!
We’re trying to raise $10,000 to continue producing the pod, plus our short videos—and thanks to you, our amazingly generous supporters, we’re nearly 25% of the way there!

We’re giving you the week off from our reading/listening list—but, in honor of the 5 year anniversary of the Paris Agreement, we’re sharing a powerful new 3-part video series from our friends @ 350.org & the Pacific Climate Warriors…
Fighting for Our Survival
With the COP26 negotiations cancelled this year, we still want to make waves about key climate truths. Created by artists across the Pacific, this film series showcases the emotional weight of the climate crisis, the urgency of action, and the way forward.
