Welcome to Generation GND
A Newsletter About the Climate Movement, From the Team Behind "Generation Green New Deal" (Vol. 1)
Hey there #GreenNewDealMaker,
Welcome to the Generation Green New Deal Newsletter!
If you’re receiving this it’s because you either...
Heard about us on social media, or found us on Substack---WELCOME!
Were a supporter of Generation Green New Deal’s IndieGoGo film-funding campaign--THANKS FOR STAYING IN TOUCH!
Are a friend or curious onlooker who signed up for updates from us on our website--GREAT TO HAVE YOU HERE!
Are a traveler moving through the space-time continuum who’s here to take us to a Green New Deal--LEAD US TO OUR FUTURE!
Now that we’re all accounted for--and assuming you haven’t yet marked us as spam--you probably have a few questions about all this. Please read on...
While we’re still hard at work on the feature documentary, we’ve always intended Generation Green New Deal to be something much more than just a film. To that end, we’re launching this newsletter, where we’re going to bring you weekly updates on the movement for a Green New Deal and the climate movement as a whole!
In ensuing editions of the Generation GND Newsletter we’ll bring you ‘The Movement Report’, an ongoing blog from activists in the climate movement, amazing writers and journalists in our network, and occasionally a member of our team. We’ll also feature ‘bonus-interview clips’ from #GenGND as well as occasional in-depth ‘Oral Histories from the Youth Climate Movement’ plus a curated ‘Green New Reading List’...And so much more!
We’ll also use this space to send exciting updates about our film and other SECRET PROJECTS we’ve been hard at work on during the Pandemic…That’s another great reason to stay tuned to this newsletter in the coming weeks, because we’re going to be giving you--our OG’s--first dibs on everything we release.
But, in the meantime, we want to focus our updates on giving you a glimpse behind the scenes of the GENERATION that is changing the world and saving the climate--and to curate some content which documents this youth movement, and helps you understand where it’s headed.
To that end, if you haven’t yet seen the 25-min. Sneak-preview of #GenGND that we premiered at this year’s (virtual) DC Environmental Film Festival, we HIGHLY encourage you to check it out on Vimeo on Demand HERE
Your support of our work helps us complete the project...And it also helps us produce the rapid-response short-videos we’ve been making during the Pandemic, which you can check out HERE
Until next time, we wish you good health--and a swift dismantling of the Fossil-Fuel Industry!
Please forward this on to friends, family, and any supporters of climate policy at the scale of the crisis.
And keep your ears open for a very exciting announcement next week...
If you simply can’t get enough of us, you can follow us across Social media here:
Thank you for your support.
Onwards,
The GenGND Team

Speaking of air pollution… if you’ve seen our sneak preview, you’ve heard about the effects of air pollution from the Marathon oil refinery in the 48217 ZIP code of Detroit. In an article that quotes two of our interviewees, Justin Onwenu of the Sierra Club and local 48217 organizer Theresa Landrum, CBS62 Detroit reports on an agreement by Marathon to pay $282,000 to improve a local school’s air filtration system. We agree with Theresa that that number is “nothing but a grain of sand in the sea of egregious acts that this company and the other companies have committed for decades” Marathon Ordered To Pay Fines, SEP For Air Quality Violations
